Ellen worked traditionally before studying Computer Arts BA (Hons) at Abertay University, with painterly elements shining through in her work. However, while studying she found her passion for cinematography and narrative, creating multiple short films in her time there, including her Honours project, "Strike."

Ellen helped co-found Shouty Knot after graduating in 2024 to turn her passion into her profession.
